Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog have shared more information about the redesigned puzzles and traps in Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, explaining how the remake expands Lara Croft’s original adventure.
The details appear in the fifth episode of the game’s developer video series, titled Puzzles & Traps. Developers from both studios discuss the elements needed to create a satisfying Tomb Raider puzzle and how environmental hazards contribute to exploration.
Legacy of Atlantis will retain familiar puzzle concepts while rebuilding their structure for modern gameplay. Players will manipulate water flows, redirect beams of light, activate pressure plates and decode ancient symbols. Solutions will require information found while exploring rather than relying only on a nearby switch or object.
The environments are also larger and more connected than their 1996 versions. According to the official Tomb Raider website, rooms that previously operated as isolated puzzle spaces now connect with surrounding areas. This design will provide different approaches and additional paths through each location.
The Lost Valley’s classic cog puzzle will return in a significantly reworked form. Crystal Dynamics says familiar scenes are being redesigned to provide new surprises while preserving the atmosphere and identity of Lara’s first adventure.
| Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis will launch on February 12, 2027, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X | S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC through Steam. The game is being developed with Unreal Engine 5 and will be published by Amazon Game Studios. |
