Story
Tomb Raider I Remastered is part of the Tomb Raider I-III Remastered collection, released on 14 February 2024 by Aspyr Media. This definitive version of the 1996 classic brings Lara Croft’s debut adventure to modern platforms with fully remastered visuals while preserving the original gameplay experience.
The remaster features a completely rebuilt graphical engine, offering high-resolution textures, improved lighting, and modernised character models — all while remaining 100% faithful to the original level geometry and gameplay. Players can toggle between the new visuals and the original 1996 graphics at any time with the press of a button, making it both a nostalgia trip and an accessible entry point for new players.
Lara receives a commission from Jacqueline Natla, CEO of Natla Technologies, to recover a mysterious artefact from a Peruvian tomb. What begins as a straightforward archaeological commission spirals into a globe-spanning conspiracy involving the lost continent of Atlantis, an all-powerful relic called the Scion, and forces that threaten the entire world.
The remaster also includes newly added modern control options alongside the original “tank” controls, achievement support on all platforms, and improved performance. It represents the most faithful and accessible way to experience the game that started it all.
