Plot
Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life is the 2003 sequel to the original film, directed by Jan de Bont. Angelina Jolie returns as Lara Croft in a globe-spanning race to find Pandora’s Box before a ruthless bio-weapons dealer can unleash its contents on the world.
The adventure begins when an earthquake off the coast of Greece uncovers a hidden temple beneath the sea. Inside, Lara discovers a glowing orb — a map that supposedly leads to the mythical Cradle of Life, the original resting place of Pandora’s Box. The orb is stolen by mercenaries working for the vicious bio-weapons dealer Jonathan Reiss, who intends to use Pandora’s Box as the ultimate biological weapon.
To recover the orb and track Reiss across the globe, Lara forms an uneasy alliance with Terry Sheridan, a former British military operative and ex-lover with a complicated past. Their journey takes them from the ancient temples of China to the vast plains of Kenya, culminating in a tense confrontation deep inside the Cradle of Life itself.
The film features more elaborate action set-pieces than its predecessor, including a motorcycle chase across the Great Wall of China and an underwater temple sequence. While it performed modestly at the box office compared to the first film, it remains a fan favourite for its globe-trotting adventure and Jolie’s commanding presence.
