Tomb Raider: Journeys ran concurrently with the main Tomb Raider: The Series as a companion title, publishing twelve issues between 2001 and 2003. Where the parent series maintained a more consistent creative team and ongoing story threads, Journeys functioned as an anthology-adjacent book — each arc or standalone issue was largely self-contained, sending Lara on a discrete adventure with a rotating roster of writers and artists.

The format suited the nature of the character. Lara Croft does not require elaborate ongoing continuity: she can be placed in any corner of the world, pointed at an ancient mystery, and the story writes itself. Journeys took advantage of this, using the flexibility of a shorter format to explore settings and tones that the main series didn’t always have room for.

The book offered several artists who would go on to significant careers their early professional work, and while it never reached the cultural prominence of The Series, it has a devoted following among fans who appreciate its more intimate scale. Several issues are considered among the better single-issue Tomb Raider comics produced during the Top Cow era.

Journeys concluded with issue #12 in 2003, shortly before Top Cow began winding down its Tomb Raider output as Core Design’s era ended and the franchise moved to Crystal Dynamics.
