Lara Croft has tackled some pretty impressive foes over the years. Ancient Atlanteans. Crazed Japanese goddesses. Even a giant dragon. But there is one enemy she could never overcome – the British Health and Safety Executive, which says that Amazon MGM Studios’ Tomb Raider production broke workplace safety laws earlier this year.
To be clear, this infraction seems to be totally unrelated to the injury that Sophie Turner suffered that stopped filming in March. The infraction in question has to do with isocyanate paints and how they were applied during the production of Tomb Raider. That specific kind of paint has been linked to asthma diagnosis and has very specific safety measures that must be followed when it is used. This includes giving up to 20 minutes for the fumes to dissipate before the room is considered safe without PPE being worn.
The HSE issued Project Temple Productions Ltd, the company producing Tomb Raider, with an “improvement notice” in April, which compelled the company to take immediate action to rectify that breach of safety law. Within one month, the HSE determined that they had complied.
This infraction doesn’t appear to have caused any delay in the Tomb Raider production schedule, and it isn’t immediately clear if there was any fine associated with the issue.
Tomb Raider is being produced by Project Temple Productions for Prime Video. Game of Thrones and X-Men: Apocalypse star Sophie Turner is playing the iconic Lara Croft in the series that currently does not have a release date.
