Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration Gets Physical Switch 2 Editions from Limited Run Games

Lara’s Siberian trip is getting a physical release on Switch 2. Limited Run Games and Aspyr have announced Standard and Collector’s Editions of Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration for Nintendo Switch 2, and pre-orders open on 9 October.

Aspyr already launched the game digitally on Switch 2. This is the boxed version, timed to land in the middle of Lara Croft’s 30th anniversary. Both editions include a physical Game Card, not a download code in a case. If you’d rather keep your Switch 2 library on carts than in a download list, this is your chance.

The Collector’s Edition is the one fans will want. It costs $99.99, £90.00, €110.95 or $140.99 CAD and includes:

The Divine Source is the artifact Lara chases through the whole game, said to grant immortality. A glowing version on your desk is a cool piece for anyone who played Rise back in the day. The Trinity patch is a nice nod too, since Trinity is the shadowy organisation hunting her the entire time.

The Standard Edition is $49.99, £45.00, €55.95 or $70.99 CAD. You get the physical Game Card, the game case and an 8-page booklet.

Pre-orders for both editions open on 9 October and run until 15 November at 11:59 PM ET, through Limited Run Games. Limited Run hasn’t announced a shipping date yet.

One naming note. Limited Run’s press release calls it the 20 Year Collection, but the box art and Aspyr’s own description use 20 Year Celebration. We’ve gone with the name on the box.

Both editions include the full game plus the Season Pass content. That covers a lot:

Lara’s Nightmare, where you defend the manor from a zombie invasion

Baba Yaga: The Temple of the Witch, a new tomb with an ancient terror inside

Cold Darkness Awakened, where you fight waves of infected predators

Blood Ties is still one of my favourite bits of the reboot trilogy. It’s quiet, it’s personal, and it’s just Lara wandering her family home piecing things together. Having it on the cart is a big plus.

If you missed it the first time, Rise of the Tomb Raider follows Lara as she uncovers an ancient mystery that puts her in the crosshairs of Trinity. The trail leads to the myth of the Lost City of Kitezh, and she heads to Siberia on what the game frames as her first proper tomb raiding expedition.

You hunt animals, craft weapons and scavenge for resources in hostile environments. Combat lets you go quiet or loud, using trees and water to avoid or take down enemies, crafting explosives on the fly and leaning on Lara’s bow and climbing axe. And the tombs are back in a big way, with traps, environmental puzzles and ancient texts to decipher.

Rise is the high point of the reboot trilogy for a lot of players, me included, because it’s the one where the optional tombs finally felt like the main event. A full physical package with all the DLC on a Switch 2 cart is about as good a way to own it as you’ll get.
