Earlier this week brought us the announcement that Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, a reimagining of the 1996 genre-defining game, is coming to Switch 2 on Feb. 12th, 2027. As Lara Croft, harness your wits and athleticism to explore exotic locations lost to time—from the jungles of Peru to the ancient ruins of Greece, the deserts of Egypt, and a mysterious Mediterranean island shrouded in myth. Traverse treacherous landscapes, solve deadly contraptions, and face lethal predators as you hunt for the scattered pieces of the Scion, an artifact of immeasurable power.
In Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, Alix Wilton Regan is taking up the mantle of Lara Croft, handling both voice work and performance capture. In a chat with What Culture Gaming, Regan reveals that she went a tad too hard during her performance and ended up injuring her arm in the process.
“I just forget that I’m not actually Lara Croft. I was recently throwing myself into a door voluntarily as she batters the door down, and I hurt my arm by the end of the day. Everyone was like, ‘You don’t have to do that.’ And I’m like, ‘I do! I have to feel everything.’ I would drive people mad on set with that. That was how I injured my arm. I was doing five, six, seven takes in a row. My arm was hanging limply by my side. A co-star went, ‘I don’t think that’s right.’ I was like, ‘Oh, it’s probably not.’”
Not surprisingly, it seems playing Lara Croft is dangerous business. Earlier this year we heard that actor Sophie Turner, who’s playing Lara in Amazon’s upcoming Tomb Raider TV series, also suffered an injury while tackling the role. Reports stated that it was a minor back injury, and thankfully Turner has since healed and returned to the set.
